For those of us who strive to practice environmentally sustainability,
yet refuse to sacrifice our German-engineered automobile, Mercedes-Benz
Accessories GmbH along with ADP Engineering GmbH, a top German cycle
manufacturer, have combined forces to create a Folding Bike – the
newest addition to the highly exclusive Mercedes-Benz Bike Collection.
The Folding Bike is everything one would expect from Mercedes-Benz –
yet remains an acceptable option for navigating any urban environment.
A patented mechanism allows the bike to be folding effortlessly in a
two-step process. A quick-release lever near the seat brings the front
and rear wheel together, and a second lever above the front wheel
allows the handlebars to pivot down. At its most compact, the bike
measures 800 x 800 x 260 millimetres – and may easily be placed in the
boot of a car or stored in a garage or apartment. Even the rear cargo
rack can be used when the bike is folded, and the seven litre Teflon
pannier can be accessed.
As with any Mercedes-engineered product, the Folding Bike’s suspension
system between the aluminium alloy frame ensures the rider will stay
comfortable on nearly any surface. The urban cyclist may navigate
through the city shifting through five gears whilst remaining safe with
highly efficient brake discs. By Andrew J Wiener.

Hell is taken out of Helmet with their awesome new line of
headprotective gear. Inspired by retro cool Evil Knievel line
designs, these helmets have the competitive edge with their injection of
organicand reptilian face designs. The cobra and black belly snake
skindesigns would make The Fonz weep, whilst the wood grain finish say
'I'm earthy and up for the challenge". Full on flip down eye

Extremesports safety gear has been at a relatively uninspiring stage

When it comes to cycling, combining safety with style is not always easy. However, these new bicycle tires from Sweetskinz merge the two effortlessly. Sweetskinz is a range of nocturnal tires which are light reflective at night.
Unlike
many reflective add-on features, the entire rubber tire itself is
reflective. With urban edge, graffiti inspired patterns such as the
fiery 'Scorch' and the snake like 'Rattleback', riders can be seen at
night in style. by Andy G
Here at TCH, we love riding bikes through the city. There's something immensely pleasing about sailing past scores of traffic with little more than a push of a pedal. And at the same time, you're burning the calories, and doing your bit to stay green. But there's one thing we hate about this simple mode of transport. People like nothing more than stealing them, damaging them, or driving buses into them. While your safe at work crunching the numbers, who's looking after your ride home?
Cue the bike dispensing machine. Brought to you courtesy of bikedispenser.com, a small firm from Amsterdam, the idea is to help facilitate bike rentals in urban areas. Cyclists pay a small fee to hire a bike, and then they can take it where they please. Once they’ve finished, they can return it either to that machine, or another one across town. And because they’ve been fitted with RFID tags, they won’t all have been nicked before you can get one.
Now, if only they can do something about those van drivers… By Matt Hussey
We apologise, but the idea of getting on a motorbike and dodging buses and
pedestrians is just not on top of our list of ‘things to do’ before
we die. Mainly because it’ll probably shorten how long we have to get
through our tick-in-the-box achievements. But there is something
inimitably smug in sliding through traffic and being able to park
anywhere you like without fear of some ambitious traffic warden
clamping your wheels.
And now, it’s just got a little bit smugger. Nexx Helmets from the UK have just
released their new collection for 2007. Featuring the Nexx Cross
Aluminium, a dirt bike shaped helmet, equipped with removable inner so
you can make sure your face doesn’t smell like a football boot when
your out and about. It looks pretty good too.
The range features other helmets including the Integral X10. But our
personal favourite is the Nexx Open Face, think Top Gun on the
highstreet. The lightweight frame is perfect for easy carry, and
it knocks the socks off any other helmet we’ve seen recently. Paired
with the other two designs in the range, it’s a bit of a no
brainer between these and the cannonballs most people wear when
scooting round town. By Matthew Hussey
With everything from designer luxury toilet paper on offer these days, we're not surprised to hear about the luxury bicycle. For those of you not content with a pushbike or mountain bike, Pinel & Pinel, a Paris-based luxury goods manufacturer, has created the 'lux-cycle', available in leather finishes of no less than 51 different colors including chocolate brown and hot pink. It's not all useless fashion, the 'lux-cycle' folds away (into its own custom suitcase) for simple portability. But at just over $6000, we think only Lance Armstrong will be able to afford one. by Billy T
With petrol prices soaring worldwide, the bike is back stronger than ever as a favored use of transport. When it comes to parking, there is nothing more space saving than a bike, as this new bike rack by Andrian Rovero proves. To drive its space saving point across the rack is molded in the shape of an average car and holds six bikes in one car space.
Aside from its lesson in space efficiency and urban planning, the simple, yet witty design is aesthetically pleasing and humorous to boot. The Mini Cooper version of the rack only holds two bikes . (just kidding) by Billy T
Cycling the streets of Toronto in winter has it's pitfalls. Ice Stalactites falling and killing you, Blizzards messing with your speed and killing you and the occasional death by grizzly bear. Well the safest and fastest way to get around a cold city is by tube , and we don't mean London's'. Velo-City is an elevated bikeway, enclosed in tubes to provide protection for all season cycling. The tubes create a natural tail wind which reduces air resistance and increases speed. Cyclists can zip through a network of tubes like lab rats and resurface at various exit points in the street. It's all in the development stages but provides a very bright future to freezing cyclists. by Andy G
